I Don’t Wear Them, But I Don’t Want To Give Them Away

Welcome to May friends! The first Tuesday of the month is when we have our Ageless Style Link-up so that means we are kicking off the month of May with a bang. Just in case you aren’t familiar with our link up, here’s a little info.

The first Tuesday of every month ten over 40 bloggers present a different style theme and show a myriad of ways to wear it, all the while proving you can still be fashionable and on trend over 40 and beyond.

So this month I’m joining 8 other bloggers and we are sharing an item we have that we just don’t seem to wear. You know we all have things like that, right? Well let me just tell you that this was way harder for me than I even thought it would be. Here’s the thing, I figured out the items I have in my closet that for one reason or another that I don’t wear hold that place because I just don’t feel good in them. Life is too short to wear things even for a post that don’t make you feel your best. After trying on a couple of different things I didn’t want to be seen in, I finally had my light bulb moment.

So can guess just what it is in this photo that I don’t wear? If you guessed the shoes, you guessed right. They are great shoes made by a great designer. I’ve had them a good 10+ years but have worn them very little, even when I first purchased them. I really think the main reason I bought them was because my mom is a big fan of Donald J. Pliner shoes and they were such a great deal. I got them at the end of the season during one of Dillard’s huge clearance sales.

You know if you hold on to some things they come back around and as luck would have it, mules are back, baby. I pulled these out in the fall and wore them again {one time}, the day I took these pictures. I think they are really cute and they’re such nice shoes I just can’t bring myself to part with them even though I really don’t wear them. I think it’s the fit and the day I did wear them I got a blister. #aintnobodygottimeforthat

So what item(s) do you have that you can’t part with? I also have a few items I hold onto just as a gauge for my physical size? Do you do that? I’ll pull out an old piece to see how it fits. Sick, right? Even though it may be a little sick, it is an effective way to keep your size in check if you’re like me and always trying to fight the battle of the bulge.

Each month we ask a blogger to join us as a co-host and this month it’s Maria of Passion Fruit, Paws & Peonies. Maria describes her style as a cross of elegance and boho chic. I love that! Last week she did a post on positive message tees that I loved. With graphic tees being so on trend, it’s just that much better if one also has a positive message. Maybe if we all wore positive message graphic tees it would be like subliminal messages for everyone we passed. Who’s game? Pop over to Maria’s blog and say hello!

My mom has a pair of shoes by this designer—definitely super cool!! But mules are totally in style again, so I bet you can have fun with these–although the blister thing is a bummer!!!

Thanks Jodie! I’ll just have to remember BAND-AIDs next time!!!

You did a spectacular job my friend! I felt myself nodding along as I was reading. Donald J. Pilner shoes – oh yes!!! I had a pair I got at a consignment store and finally got rid of them last year because they hurt, it sure was hard to say goodbye though. I have a few items in my closet I keep just to make sure my size stays in check. That is crazy, right? I know we aren’t the only ones but sometimes it does feel like #crazypartyoftwo ! Ha!!!
Love your hair in this post btw! Love you too sweet friend!

    • May 3, 2018 / 3:11 pm

You are the sweetest!!! I think I need to go back to a little more blonde in my hair. I’m trying to get a length back on it too, but I just have to keep cutting of the damaged parts. UGH!!! Happy Friday Eve friend. So happy this day is behind you! XO

Oh Lisa you still make everything look great! This post is inspiring me to do some purging though seriously- I feel like I get sentimentally attached to items that I will never wear again!

    • May 3, 2018 / 3:10 pm

Holly, You are too kind! I need to do some purging too. I wish we had a good consignment shop to take things to around here. That would make it easier. Happy Friday Eve!! XO

I didn’t notice the shoes at first Lisa because you look so radiant. Your skin looks beautiful! I think your shoes look fab!! Can you style them with socks? – that’s very trendy at the mo’ – I can’t pull the look off but wish I could – it would certainly save on the blisters! Thanks so much for having me as your co-host, I have really enjoyed the challenge and feel honoured to be asked! xx

You are too kind Maria! I think they’d fly off my feet if I wore them with socks. LOL Wouldn’t that be a site. Great getting to know you! XOXO

You are soooo good. I literally have items in my closet that are 15-20 years old but you’re right what if it comes back and it often does. You look so beautiful! xo

    • May 3, 2018 / 3:08 pm

Thanks sweet Andrea!!! I get rid of some stuff just so my hubby doesn’t get caught rolling his eyes…LOL I need a closet like yours? XOXO

They are adorable. But I understand. If they hurt your feet they might as well go…. unless a little specifically place moleskin padding would help. 😉

    • May 3, 2018 / 3:07 pm

I have some moleskin. If I give them another go, I’ll have to remember that. Thanks Paula! XO

This is a very cute outfit and I immediately knew you were going to say it was the shoes. 🙂 They are cute, and mules are so on trend right now. I have found myself buying or hanging on to items just because I know they are a great brand even if they aren’t perfect for me. I have learned it’s better to just walk away…

    • May 3, 2018 / 3:06 pm

Well thanks Jennie! I should let them go, but so far I can’t…LOL

I knew instantly it was going to be the shoes. How funny and they are so pretty. I have lots in my closet that I just can’t part with but I have also parted with a ton. I got rid of 8 pair of shoes just yesterday and carried probably 50 items of clothing to the consignment store. I’m making progress.

    • May 3, 2018 / 3:06 pm

Thanks Lea! I wish we had a good consignment store, it would make getting rid of stuff easier. I hate just giving it away sometimes. We have a benevolence ministry at church I donate to usually. XOXO

  9. May 1, 2018 / 6:14 pm

I know we all have a couple of those pieces in our closet, I certainly do 🙂 Love you blouse, its so cute and you look fab wearing it.

    • May 3, 2018 / 3:04 pm

Thanks Nora!!! I know as soon as I get rid of them, I’ll wish I had them back…LOL XOXO

  10. May 2, 2018 / 6:14 am

I used to have SO MANY of those pieces in my closet, but I worked to get rid of them, as hard as it was. TOTALLY worth it haha (hint, hint!) Either way, you’re adorable 🙂

    • May 3, 2018 / 3:03 pm

You’re precious! As soon as I let something go, I want it back. Law of the jungle! XO

I have bought items so many times just because of the brand and the price! It’s too tempting sometimes!

    • May 3, 2018 / 4:17 pm

Yep. I’m really trying to learn not to do that and ask myself, “if it wasn’t ‘x brand’, would I buy it?” That really helps. XO

I dispose of things I don’t wear in my closet twice a year and I’m pretty good about it. I have a decent sized closet, but I like to keep ALL my clothes for the entire year in it… so, I have to donate what I’m not wearing. I love how you selected SHOES of all things, ha! I was thinking, wait… this is such a cute outfit, how can she not like the top or pants? Actually, I have a pair of coral trousers and I had a light bulb with this post… I really should wear them with one of my blue/white tops. May try that this week!

    • May 3, 2018 / 4:16 pm

I keep all my stuff (well most of it?)in our closet too. I need to be better about purging. I think if we had a good consignment store, I’d be better about it.

  13. May 5, 2018 / 12:09 pm

I have so many clothes and shoes that I don’t wear but can’t get rid of either! I’m such a hoarder. I really like the mules, such a shame they gave you a blister. I love the gingham top and coral trousers! Thanks for linking up!
